Glow puppies!

One concern I have as a dog-dad of two dark colored dogs is visibility at night. They are pretty much invisible when its night time or early morning. I might as well be invisible too because I usually dress in dark colors. If a car was coming at us, they would not be able to see us until it’s too late, which is a scary thought.
One evening I was walking my dogs and I saw another person walking their dog. I noticed the dog had something glowing around it’s neck. At first I thought to myself, is that dog wearing a glow stick? Lol. Later on when I got home, I was thinking about it and it dawned on me that it was probably an LED light-up collar. I went on Amazon, searched those words and sure enough, they exist. I had never heard of those before. I went ahead and ordered a couple of these ones:

They work well, charge with USB-C and the package says it has a 10 hour battery life (which means I only have to charge them once a week, sometimes I can wait even longer than that). My dogs don’t wear these collars 24/7, I only clip them on when its dark outside and only for the duration of our walk. They have 3 modes: a steady glow, a slow blink and a fast blink. They come in a few different colors (green, blue, pink, red). I did purchase a blue one but I was not pleased with how dim and not-very-visible it looked at night so I returned it and stuck with the green ones. They are very bright and noticeable. I might try out a red-colored collar at some point. I was looking at pictures in the reviews section and the red ones seemed to be bright enough. I guess I’ll see for myself at some point.
Here’s a pic with the blue collar next to the green, even with the flash from my camera you can tell the green one is more vibrant.

On our night and early morning walks I have a little bit more of a piece of mind when I am walking them. We are bright and you can see us now. I often see drivers in cars turning their heads and looking at us when driving by. Probably wondering why my dogs are glowing. Lol
Here’s a video of us walking down a street in blink mode.

My dogs love to go to the park, especially when nobody is around and we have the park all to ourselves. It gives them a chance to run around off-leash and get some real good exercise. Before I invested in these glow collars, letting them off the leash at night was stressful for me because I could not see them. They were pretty much invisible when they would run off into a part of the park that isn’t well lit. I only did that once or twice and then decided not to let them go off-leash when its dark outside any more. Now that I have these glow collars I think its fine, I can see them at all times and know exactly where they are.
At home I have a laser pointer and they love chasing it around the backyard when its dark outside. One day it occurred to me that I could bring the laser pointer to the park and really have some fun, so that’s exactly what we did.

Of course all that running around really wears them out. Thankfully the park has a drinking fountain just for dogs.

Anyway, if you want to get some glow collars for your dog or gift them to someone who has a dog, search “LED light up dog collar” on Amazon, they have tons of different brands and styles. I am not sponsored by Amazon or the brand of collar I purchased so I wont be posting any links here, but if you want the one I purchased, search up “Tractive LED Light Up Dog Collar USB Rechargeable Waterproof (Green),” they come in 3 sizes (small, medium and large). I got the large size for my two pups.
We’ve been having fun with these glow collars and we finally gained that night time visibility I was wanting for a while now. Now I look forward to night walks and early morning walks. If you can think of any other activities for us to do besides walking and bringing the laser pointer to the park, feel free to comment with your suggestions. 🙂

That sounds great. I have a black dog, and I think this would be perfect for him, especially during our nighttime walks. Hehe. I love that it offers a 10-hour battery life and features three different modes. I’ll definitely look into this!
@freelancermaria Glad I could help, hope you and your pup have a great time on your night time walks in the future. 🙂
My fiance has got a black dog and I am pretty sure that she is going to like this. I will recommend it to her and hopefully, she gets it for her dog.
@Henrywrites Sounds good, hope it works out well for her.
